The Highland North West from Inverness

Last Blog said we would carry on from Muir of Ord, a small village near Beauly Firth, west of Inverness.  Here we came across this old hotel tucked in the trees.  It was several hundred years old and started life as an unfortified house that a younger son of the then laird was permitted to build on the estate.  Now owned and run as a family business who also run a ski business during the winter in France, during which they close the hotel.  The owner was a bit ecentric.

A typical view travelling north west into the highlands - mist and cloud over rolling hills.

Occassional lonely buildings that had a former life.

Further into the Highlands.

Ruins of a byegone era are frequently seen. Here a castle remains on a peninsula commanding access through a Loch and valley system.

There is also some serious farming!

and recent housing...

Along with a historic "Longhouse".

or another ruin.
